History
As part of BSD’s community-led strategic plan, we spent the spring of 2018 conducting two different climate surveys.
- A school-focused NCSS Climate Survey
- A District-Administration and Central Office Climate Survey coordinated by UVM
In order to reach our community, we shared these anonymous surveys with our community through a variety of channels, including online, via social media, through emails and automated phone calls. We held special sessions with our students to allow them to participate and teachers used staff meeting time to provide their feedback. All told, more than 2,000 staff, students and parents participated in our climate survey. Below you will find survey results for both the District and each school, as well as the next steps we want to take to use this data to inform our work and relationships.
Synopsis
This data paints a picture of the things going well throughout BSD, as well as the areas where we need to improve. Some pieces of data shed light on current issues, such as the realization that despite recently completing a new strategic plan, nearly 2/3 of parents do not feel there is a strong and compelling vision for our District. Other data reinforces areas we have been targeting for improvement over the past year, such as the need to build better relationships.
Next Steps
We are in the process of presenting the data to each school, leaders throughout the district, the board, parents and the community. After each group has a chance to analyze and reflect on the information, we’ll begin working with stakeholders to set aspirational goals for improving the District’s climate.
