(In Vermont , approximately 23,000 households (including 21,000 children) are hungry or “food insecure.”)

- Children who even occasionally suffer from hunger are put at more risk than others.  Some of the things that they are put at risk are, health problems, stunned growth, increased aggression, and frequent infection lasting longer then normal and recurring sickness that last for long periods of time.  Hunger has the power to rob a child from there fullest potential and affect there brains from growing and or learning new things, this and the everyday properly function.

-- Poverty in the US is the number 1 factor of hunger and food insecurity.  Lack of affordable housing, low wages, and high unemployment and just some of the problems feeding to this issue in Vermont and the US .

- Fact:  Vermont is below the national average for food insecure households which some believe is a step in the right direction.

-      Over 24,000 Vermont children live in households eligible for food stamps, but only 16,800 households are receiving food stamps.  Food stamps should be covering everyone that is eligible to receive them.
