EMS Dodgeball Tourney!

Tomorrow, may be Friday, January 20th, but for EMS students it will be Philadelphia in July, 1776. In their role identities, students have taken personas from one of the thirteen colonies. Children have assumed the role of either Loyalists, who pledge allegiance to the King of England, George III, Radicals (or Patriots), who seek to separate from England and become independent, or Moderates (Neutralists) who must finally decide the debate one way or the other. Final arguments will be from about 8:30-10:00 AM, and a vote will be tabulated later in the day. In our vote on independence, a simple majority rules.

Develop A Family Media Plan

Tech Tips For Families- Below is a link to a "Family Media Plan" tool that was recently released by the American Academy of Pediatrics. It's very intuitive and provides a great way to start a family conversation around "responsible use" and a "balance".

SES is now HATS
NCLB was reauthorized in December 2015 as the Every Child Succeeds Act (ESSA). Although Supplemental Educational Services are not required under ESSA, the Burlington Schools will be providing alternative supports [Homework and Tutoring Services- HATS] to those students who previously wouldhave been eligible for SES.
Eligible students in grades2-12 mayreceive Homework Help as part of the school's after school program or supplemental tutoring in Reading and/or Math by an outside provider.
Applications will be sent homein two weeks, with the program to begin by the end of October.

CONGRATULATIONS LAURA BOTTE on receiving the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The award is given to outstanding K-12 science and mathematics teachers from across the country. The winners are selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians, and educators following an initial selection process at the state level. Winners of this Presidential honor receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion, and are invited to Washington, DC, for an awards ceremony, as well educational and celebratory events, and visits with members of the Administration. Connecting to our community: In January, two 6th Grade teams partnered up with Young Traditions Vermont and the Vermont Folklife center for this song analysis project. In addition to analyzing a song that was important to themselves, they learned about the music important to Vermonters from different cultural backgrounds.
