Letters to the Legislature

Dear Legislature,

Kids in Africa wake up everyday not having enough food. They don’t have    surplus food like many people here in Vermont . When people think about hunger in the world, they mostly picture Africa and kids with big bellies. They picture sad eyes looking at you, and in the background dry desert with no water. But hunger is everywhere. And it could just be right out your front door. Kids in Burlington can also wake up not having any food before going to school. Luckily, they can go to school and eat breakfast. That way they are able to start their days with full bellies and are able to put their best effort into learning.

Burlington is very fortunate to have so many programs to help the hungry children and families. Especially school meals. The healthy choice that the school district chooses lets the children eat nutritious food. In some families the children eat would be eating all whites, pasta, bread and rice, and wouldn’t be able to have the nutrients that they need. Not all schools have breakfast. And if I had one wish it would be to let every school have breakfast for the kids who need it. Because they are the future.

Dear Legislature,

It has come to our attention that not all schools in the chittenden county or in Vermont serve free breakfast.  We are writing this letter to try and convince you to give low income families free breakfast for their  kids at school.

Kids deserve free breakfast because they need energy to get through the day, also studies show that kids who don’t eat breakfast have slower brain development  A lot of kids in our state could use free breakfast: 20,000 Vermont kids are coming from food insecure households! So if we have free breakfast families can focus their money on other inportant things such as, heat, transportation, and rent.

Before school starts all kids from our school no matter what their background is, come in to eat free breakfast, and we think all school should have opportunity.
